Bang Mod Stadium, some questions.
« เมื่อ: 29 กันยายน, 10, 13:29:03 »
Hello. As Samut Prakarn used to play at Bang Mod Stadium, I was hoping someone could answer these questions for me.

When was Bang Mod Stadium built?
Why was it built?
What is the capacity?
What facilities does it have?
Who owns the stadium?

Plus, any other comments you have about the stadium.

Many thanks, stadium_man.  :great:

I'm sorry I don't know much about the stadium either. Looking up in the Internet, I could find only that it'd been there for at least 22 years, before the surrounding area was transformed into a sports complex. It is governmentally owned, taken care of by the Division of Recreation, Department of Social Welfare, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. It is indeed a good and big stadium. Unfortunately, it is the home stadium of Bangkok FC now, and it is still controversial why...

Thanks. I think it was built in honour of the King's 60th Birthday.
What do you think the capacity is? 15,000?

I think I'm right in saying that Bangkok F.C used Bang Mod a few years ago when they were called Bangkok Bravo. Then they moved to the 72nd Birthday Stadium in Minburi and shared with Thai Honda, and then moved back to Bang Mod this season.

Why don't Samut Prakan play at a stadium in Samut Prakan province? Or is it a long story!?

Built in honour of the King's birthday anniversary was the sports complex as a whole. The stadium was there long before.

It is a very very long story!!! I don't know in detail anyway. To put it simply, there is no stadium in this province at all that's up to standard in the eyes of the president of D. 2 organising committee AND hasn't been taken by any team. He says according to (whose?) regulations two teams can't share a home stadium, yet...
- some teams in TPL do
- we are allowed to share with Customs FC this season
- but not with Bangkok FC and Thai Summit FC

You may notice the nicknames of Bangkok FC given by us. In a sense they took Bangmod away from us by certain dark forces...

Re: Bang Mod Stadium, some questions.
« ตอบกลับ #15 เมื่อ: 29 กันยายน, 10, 17:16:58 »
1.  When was Bang Mod Stadium built?
I have seen and played in Bang Mod Stadium with the only one stand quite so long
since I was a football player in 1970 the same year when Brazil conquered the Fifa
World Cup in Mexico.

Those area were Suan Thonburi Rom like as the botanic garden and park for the
public.  There was also the Scout Camping.

Until  February 12, 1988  the Thai government  and  also Bangkok Metropolitant
Administration got the idea of sports complex for the King Bhumiphol 60th birthday
anniversary stadium as called the Youth Sports Center Chalermprakait (Bang Mod).
After that  on  March 4, 1998  changed  the name to  Chalerm Prakait  Bang Mod
Stadium with the general calling as  Bang Mod Stadium upto now.

2. Why was it buit?
As already explained as the above for the King Bhumiphol 60th birthday anniversary,
including supporting and promotion for the youths in many sports   :  Football,
Basketball, Volleyball, Takraw, Badminton, Tennis,  Table-Tennis, Jogging, Running,
Sketting, Swimming, Taekwando, Arobic, Yudo, Yoka, Boxing, and Thai Boxing.

3.  What is the capaicty?
The capacity with 8,000 seats after the latest improvment for the moment.

4.  What facilities does it have?
As the above explanation there are a lot of sports promotion for the youths and
for the public.  So, there are many sports complex and buildings for each kind of
sport.

5.  Who owns the stadium?
Thai people who pay the taxes to Thai Government, are the co - owner of Bang
Mod Stadium.  Believe it or not.

In practice, Bang Mod Stadium belonging by the Division of Recreation, Department
of Social Welfare, Bangkok Metropolitant Administration (BMA).   It's not quite true
if anyone says that Bang Mod Stadium is belonging to Bangkok FC.

6.  Why don't Samutprakarn play at Bang Mod Stadium as the year of 2009?
It's politcal policy.  Ob! Ob! Ob!

WOW P Neng your information is superb!!! :great:

Believe it or not, last year the D. 2 organising committee ordered us to move to Bangphli stadium because the grass was TOO LONG and therefore the pitch is SUBstandard. How nice to know that Bangphli stadium was BETTER:
http://webboard.samutprakanfc.com/index.php?topic=1949.0
Hadn't they told us no one would've ever noticed that.

That's one of the obvious reasons why the whole shebang is questionable. They often use the word standards, which apparently is ill-, or perhaps arbitrarily, defined.

As you can see, lenience must be given for the regional league to move on. Somehow that doesn't apply to us.

I'm glad to have generated so much interest!

I plan to write a book about Thai football stadiums (I have a publisher already) and those questions are part of my research.
Research can be boring and difficult but it's so much easier when I get quick and well-informed replies as I have here.

Thank you again for your help. I hope Samut Prakan can win promotion this season.

Research can be boring and difficult but it's so much easier when I get quick and well-informed replies as I have here.

Thank you again for your help. I hope Samut Prakan can win promotion this season.
 :great:

I'll be waiting for your book. :great: It'll be the first comprehensive book on Thai stadiums ever! Do you plan to make a Thai version too?

Sorry for the late reply!

Originally I wanted the book to be dual-language with English on one side and Thai on the facing page. Obviously, there is likely to be far more interest in the subject matter from Thais than from farangs but various publishers told me that the cost of producing a dual-language book would be prohibitive. I just have to hope that the English-language version sells well and encourages the publishers to bring out a Thai version.
As you said, there has never been a book dedicated to the stadia of Thailand. This is my motivation but it involves a huge amount of research. Actually visiting the stadiums and writing about them is the easy part, but it's the research side of the project which sometimes makes me feel like this  :icon_banghead:

I'll keep you updated with my project as it progresses.  :great:

Thank you. I'll be looking forward to it. Sorry for the late reply too! (This is a purpose of a webboard anyway. Messages are kept there so that they can be replied later and, well, late. [(fan)])

Even if the English-language version doesn't sell well, I'm sure the Thai version will follow in one way or another. Thai football fans will see the former and sort of realise hey-why-don't-a-Thai-book-like-that-exists. Eventually they'll call for it somehow.

One risk of not producing the dual-language book might be that someone else would use your book as a 'basis' to write another in Thai, spoiling your hard work. It might be unlikely though.

I wish you the best of luck and have fun with the research. The more difficult it is, the more rewarding it will be in the very end. Must be exciting indeed to travel all over Thailand to visit every single stadium. Should you need any help, I'll be happy to lend a hand if I can.

Sorry for the even later reply!

You're right: there is a chance someone could copy the book into Thai, but that woudn't really bother me as I'm not precious about my work. As long as I get paid for writing the English version then it wouldn't concern me if someone copied it into Thai or Chinese or any other language. Yes, they would be making money without doing the hard work of researching and writing a book, but if it means the book is published in Thai then my aims have been achieved even if my name isn't on the cover.

"The more difficult it is, the more rewarding it will be in the very end."
I'm hoping this is true, because it is certainly difficult! My advice to budding writers is 'if you love writing don't write a book!' (at least, not a non-fiction one). I spend about 1% of my time actually writing and the rest researching: visiting hundreds of websites, emailing, telephoning, travelling, fact checking etc etc. Research is a necessary evil and it sucks all the fun out of writing.

Must be exciting indeed to travel all over Thailand to visit every single stadium.
I should clarify. The book will cover all stadia of architectural and/or historical interest. So it will not cover every municipal stadium in the country as they are nearly all identical: two small stands on each side, running track, no stands at either end. I think readers would get very bored very quickly if I wrote about every municipal stadium in the country – there must be hundreds.
My main criterion for inclusion is that the stadium should have stands on all four sides of the pitch – that's about 25 stadia – but there are a few exceptions.
Bangkok Glass's Leo Stadium is included because of the size and significance of the rest of the stadium. and the Elephant Show Stadium in Surin and the Betong Municipal Stadium in Yala (both two-sided) are included for architectural reasons.
I've also included the Coke 'Stadium' in Bang Phra, Chonburi. This ground has no stands at all and is included for just that reason: as a curiosity and surely the most basic ground to have ever staged TPL football.

"Should you need any help, I'll be happy to lend a hand if I can."
Thanks for the offer. How's your Rajamangala Stadium knowledge? It's a strange thing, but I've got loads and loads of info about stadia as diverse as the Jiranakorn in Hat Yai, the Thai-Japanese in Bangkok and the i-Mobile in Buriram, but I'm finding it difficult to get detailed info about the biggest stadium in the country!
I just go round and round in circles with my Rajamangala research and always end up with the same few statistics and photos. What I really need to know is:

How much did it cost to build?

Exactly when did construction start and finish?

Who was the main architect (name)? I know that the Faculty of Architecture at Chula Uni' designed it but I could do with names. Chula have been no help whatsoever.

What was on the site of the stadium before it was built?

That's just for a start. I would love to see some construction photos, too.
